Custom Programs Had a Triple-Gig Day

We are thrilled to announce our Custom Programs team had their first triple-gig day on Wednesday, November 8, 2017! Yes, we had Erasing the Distance teams sharing stories about mental health issues across the country, all in one day.

Here’s where we were and what topics were being addressed:

Sacramento, CA

Turning Point Community Programs hired Erasing the Distance to perform at the Mental Health and Aging Conference in Sacramento, CA. Since 1981, the Mental Health and Aging Conference has brought relevant content, developing theories, and best practices to passionate professionals serving older adults. Custom Programs Manager Jana Ross facilitated. Millie Hurley, Jermaine Hill, and Robert Koon performed.

Fort Wayne, IN

The Lutheran Foundation brought an Erasing the Distance team to SpeakUp: A Conference on the Church and Mental Health in Fort Wayne, IN. Recognizing the growing need in churches for assistance and guidance in mental and behavioral health, the SpeakUp Conference brings together nationally recognized experts and speakers to help equip and inspire pastors, priests and leaders of all denominations to better serve their congregations, parishes, and communities. Associate Artistic Director Heather Bodie facilitated and Susie Griffith performed.

“I️ forgot it was a performance. I️ was with you every minute!” – audience member

Lake Forest, IL

An Erasing the Distance performance was followed by a student workshop as part of Healthy Choices Day at Lake Forest Academy in Lake Forest, IL. The stories of mental health were part of an exploration of sexual consent and assault. Artistic Company Member Nik Zaleski facilitated. Caroline Kidwell and Meg Harkins performed.

“By telling stories, we empower and enable people to tell their stories.”

It is incredibly rewarding to be able to share the stories collected by Erasing the Distance with people, young and old, at conferences, in school, at work or for an event, and then feel the energy in the room as it begins to touch their lives. We are truly sparking dialogue, disarming stigma, educating, and promoting healing surrounding issues of mental health. Kudos to all involved!

Do you want an Erasing the Distance performance team to come to your community? Contact Custom Programs Manager Jana Ross to find out how.

I am totally in favor of this performance which I saw in Chicago, September 7, and feel it is critically important for ” Erasing the Distance” to be viewed by those persons who face the challenges of aging. I was moved to tears by the actors who so sensitively presented the final hours of our loved ones, and having first-hand information on how to reconcile that, it was faith-affirming to witness again.
